5-inch FPV racing motor
SunnySky Edge R2205
A 5-inch racing motor from SunnySky’s Edge Racing line: 22 × 5 mm stator, 30.5 g, and up to 1,407 g of thrust in SunnySky’s 16.8 V test (2300KV, GF5045×3).
- 5-inch racing
- 3S–4S
- 5-inch tri-blades (GF5040×3, GF5045×3)
The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 2205 motor drawn from SunnySky’s published sizes, not its exact design. No-load speed is KV × 14.8 V, a nominal pack for this version. SunnySky’s bench tables for it step by thrust rather than throttle, so they are in the bench data below, not on this readout.

What to pair it with
Our reading of SunnySky’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.
- ESC
- SunnySky suggests 30–45 A for the 2300KV and 45–50 A for the 2500KV, and rates them for 40 A and 45 A for 10 s. Its tests reached 39.5 A and 47 A on a GF5045×3 at 16.8 V. (SunnySky product page)
- Props
- SunnySky recommends GF5045×3 or GF5040×3; the 5045 pulled more in every test. (SunnySky product page)
- Battery
- 3S–4S; SunnySky tested at 14.8 V and 16.8 V. (SunnySky product page)
- Frame
- Four M3 holes on a 16 × 16 mm pattern, 3 mm deep. (SunnySky product page)

Inside the motor
A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:
- Shaft. An M5 threaded shaft with a nylock nut, standing 13.5 mm above the bell. (SunnySky product page)
How fast it spins
KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 2300KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.
| Battery | Volts | No-load rpm (KV × V) | Electrical frequency | ESC steps per second |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4S nominal | 14.8 | 34,040 | 3,971 Hz | 23,828 |
| 4S full | 16.8 | 38,640 | 4,508 Hz | 27,048 |
| 6S nominal | 22.2 | 51,060 | 5,957 Hz | 35,742 |
| 6S full | 25.2 | 57,960 | 6,762 Hz | 40,572 |
A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.
About the 3D model
A generic outrunner drawn from SunnySky’s published sizes: the 22 × 5 mm stator, 27.4 mm bell, 18 mm height, 5 mm shaft, 16 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything SunnySky doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
