2–3-inch toothpick FPV motor

RCinPower GTS V3 1203

A 4.5 g toothpick motor that RCinPower pairs with 2.5-inch props, with a one-piece bell on two bearings, pulling 261–269 g per motor on its 3S bench with 65 mm props (8000KV).

  • 2.5-inch toothpicks
  • 2S–3S (8000KV), 3S–4S (6000KV) or 1S–2S (11500KV)
  • 65 mm to 3-inch props
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 1203 motor drawn from RCinPower’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are RCinPower’s bench figures for the HQProp T65 mm prop at 11.1 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 50% throttle.

At 60% with the HQProp T65 mm: 139 g of thrust, 4.1 A, 46 W, 3.27 g per watt.

On your quad

1.7 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 1,076 g with the HQProp T65 mm at 11.1 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 558 g, 0.9 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

What to pair it with

Our reading of RCinPower’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.

ESC
At full throttle the 8000KV drew up to 9.6 A on 3S, the 6000KV 6.9 A on 3S and the 11500KV 13.2 A on 2S (HQProp T65 mm, 85 °C). (RCinPower spec sheets)
Props
Tested with Gemfan and HQProp 65 mm props, 3-inch props (HQProp T3 × 2, Gemfan GF3108) and, on the 8000KV, a Gemfan 2020 four-blade and 2521 three-blade. On the 8000KV at 3S the HQProp T65 mm pulled the most (269 g); on the 6000KV and 11500KV the 3-inch props pulled more than the 65 mm ones at the same voltage. (RCinPower spec sheets)
Battery
2S–3S for the 8000KV, 3S–4S for the 6000KV, 1S–2S for the 11500KV. (RCinPower spec sheets)
Frame
Four M2 screws, opposite holes 9 mm apart. (RCinPower spec sheets)

Bench data

Redrawn from RCinPower’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

  • Shaft. 1.5 mm where it leaves the bell, protruding 4.8 mm (the spec table lists the shaft as 2 mm; the drawing gives 1.5 mm for the part above the bell). (RCinPower spec sheets)
  • Bell. one piece. (RCinPower photos)
  • Stator. The coils are wound on a stack of thin steel laminations: 12 × 3 mm (1203). (RCinPower spec sheets)
  • Bearings. two (dual-bearing design). (RCinPower photos)
  • Base. 4 × M2 holes, opposite holes 9 mm apart (9 × 9); the bell's top has 4 × M2 holes for the prop, opposite holes 5 mm apart. (RCinPower spec sheets)

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 8000KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.8118,40011,840 Hz71,040
4S full16.8134,40013,440 Hz80,640
6S nominal22.2177,60017,760 Hz106,560
6S full25.2201,60020,160 Hz120,960

A 12-pole rotor has 6 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 6 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 36 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from RCinPower’s published sizes: the 12 × 3 mm stator, 15.76 mm bell, 9.9 mm height, 1.5 mm shaft, 9 mm mounting circle and 9 teeth and 12 magnets. Anything RCinPower doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
