1S–2S whoop and toothpick motor

RCinPower GTS V3 1003

A 3.45 g motor for 1S whoops and 2-inch toothpicks: a 10 × 3 mm stator on a 1.5 mm shaft, pulling 87–107 g per motor on RCinPower's 3.7 V bench (18000KV, 40 mm to 2-inch props).

  • 1S whoops and 2-inch toothpicks
  • 1S (18000KV, 22000KV) or 2S (10000KV)
  • 40 mm, 45 mm and 2-inch props
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 1003 motor drawn from RCinPower’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are RCinPower’s bench figures for the Gemfan 2015 prop at 3.7 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 50% throttle.

At 60% with the Gemfan 2015: 61 g of thrust, 4.6 A, 17 W, 4.14 g per watt.

On your quad

0.7 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 428 g with the Gemfan 2015 at 3.7 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 246 g, 0.4 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

On 1S the 18000KV peaked at 14.6 A and the 22000KV at 18.1 A, both with the Gemfan 2023 three-blade (82 °C and 85 °C). With 40–45 mm props they drew 8.7–13.3 A. (RCinPower 18000KV sheet, RCinPower 22000KV sheet)
Props
Tested with Gemfan 40 mm (1608, 1609, 1635), 45 mm and 2-inch (2015, 2023) props. On the 18000KV the 2-inch two-blade 2015 pulled the most (107 g); the three-blade 2023 drew the most current and ran hottest. (RCinPower 18000KV sheet)
Battery
1S for the 18000KV and 22000KV; the 10000KV is rated 1S–2S and was tested on 2S. (RCinPower 10000KV sheet, RCinPower 18000KV sheet, RCinPower 22000KV sheet)
Frame
Three M1.4 screws on a 6.6 mm circle, or two M2 screws 9 mm apart. (RCinPower 18000KV sheet)

Bench data

Redrawn from RCinPower’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 18000KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.8266,40026,640 Hz159,840
4S full16.8302,40030,240 Hz181,440
6S nominal22.2399,60039,960 Hz239,760
6S full25.2453,60045,360 Hz272,160

A 12-pole rotor has 6 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 6 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 36 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from RCinPower’s published sizes: the 10 × 3 mm stator, 13.5 mm bell, 9.2 mm height, 1.5 mm shaft, 6.6 mm mounting circle and 9 teeth and 12 magnets. Anything RCinPower doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
