5-inch FPV freestyle motor

RCinPower EX2306 Plus

RCinPower's entry-level 5-inch motor, 34 g on a 23 × 6.5 mm stator; on 6S the 1800KV pulled 1,488–1,624 g per motor on three 5-inch props and 1,910 g on a 6-inch.

  • 5-inch freestyle on a budget
  • 5S–6S (1800KV), 3S–5S (2500KV) or 3S–4S (2750KV)
  • 5-inch and 6-inch props
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 2306 motor drawn from RCinPower’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are RCinPower’s bench figures for the Gemfan 6 × 4.5 prop at 22.2 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 50% throttle.

At 60% with the Gemfan 6 × 4.5: 1,112 g of thrust, 20.1 A, 447 W, 2.59 g per watt.

On your quad

11.8 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 7,640 g with the Gemfan 6 × 4.5 at 22.2 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 4,446 g, 6.8 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

What you get

  • Entry-level motor, reworked

RCinPower calls the EX2306 its entry-level motor at a low price; the Plus has a new look, a reinforced base and a stator enlarged to 2306.5 for more power, it says.

  • Thin laminations

The stator is stacked from 0.2 mm Kawasaki silicon-steel sheets.

  • 34 g

34 g with 3 cm leads in all three spec tables.

What to pair it with

Our reading of RCinPower’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.

ESC
On 5-inch props the 1800KV drew up to 37 A at full throttle on 6S, and 39.9 A on the Gemfan 6 × 4.5 (83 °C, which RCinPower marks hot). The 2500KV drew up to 45.4 A on 5S (Gemfan 5 × 4.5 three-blade) and the 2750KV up to 49.9 A on 4S (HQProp 6 × 4); RCinPower marks both runs hot. RCinPower rates them at 40 A, 46 A and 50 A; an ESC rated for at least 40 A per motor covers the 1800KV, and the two higher KVs need 50 A. (RCinPower product image)
Props
Tested on Gemfan 5 × 4 three-blades, 5 × 4.5 three-blades (the BN version on the 1800KV), a 5 × 5.1 three-blade and a 5 × 4 four-blade, and on 6-inch props. At full throttle the Gemfan 5 × 4 three-blade was the most efficient on every KV; at the same voltage the 6-inch props pulled the most and ran hottest. (RCinPower product image)
Battery
5S–6S for the 1800KV, 3S–5S for the 2500KV, 3S–4S for the 2750KV. (RCinPower product image)
Frame

Bench data

Redrawn from RCinPower’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 1800KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.826,6403,108 Hz18,648
4S full16.830,2403,528 Hz21,168
6S nominal22.239,9604,662 Hz27,972
6S full25.245,3605,292 Hz31,752

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from RCinPower’s published sizes: the 23 × 6.5 mm stator, 28.69 mm bell, 19.05 mm height, 5 mm shaft, 16 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything RCinPower doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
