5-inch FPV freestyle motor

RCinPower Bison 22.5-7

A 33 g 5-inch motor on RCinPower's own 22.5 × 7 mm stator, with 694 bearings and a structure strengthened for crashes; the 1800KV pulled 1,433–1,835 g per motor at 25.2 V on seven 5- and 6-inch props.

Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 22.5-7 motor drawn from RCinPower’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are RCinPower’s bench figures for the Gemfan 6045, 2-blade prop at 25.2 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 50% throttle.

On your quad

11.3 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 7,340 g with the Gemfan 6045, 2-blade at 25.2 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 3,967 g, 6.1 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

What you get

  • Built to take crashes

RCinPower kept the GTS V2's design language and strengthened the structure to make the motor more crash-resistant, while keeping the weight down.

  • 22.5 × 7 mm stator

A stator size RCinPower chose instead of the usual 22 mm or 23 mm, wound single-strand with single-crystal oxygen-free copper for linear power, it says.

  • 694 bearings

4 × 11 × 4 mm bearings, which RCinPower says are twice as strong as the usual 684s and run smoother and longer.

What to pair it with

Our reading of RCinPower’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.

ESC
The 1800KV drew up to 23.5 A at full throttle on 6S (Gemfan 6045, 76 °C) and the 2500KV up to 33.6 A on 4S (78 °C). RCinPower rates them at 25 A and 35 A; an ESC rated for 30 A per motor covers the 1800KV, and 35–40 A the 2500KV. (RCinPower 1800KV sheet, RCinPower 2500KV sheet)
Props
The 6-inch Gemfan 6045 two-blade pulled the most on both KVs: 1,835 g on 6S (1800KV) and 1,740 g on 4S (2500KV). Of the 5-inch props the HQProp 5.1 × 3.1 three-blade pulled the most; the HQProp EthiX S3 and DALProp 5147.5 were the most efficient at full throttle. (RCinPower 1800KV sheet, RCinPower 2500KV sheet)
Battery
5S–6S for the 1800KV, 3S–4S for the 2500KV. (RCinPower 1800KV sheet, RCinPower 2500KV sheet)
Frame
Four M3 screws, opposite holes 16 mm apart. (RCinPower 1800KV sheet)

Bench data

Redrawn from RCinPower’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

  • Stator. 22.5 mm across and 7 mm tall, wound single-strand with single-crystal oxygen-free copper, 220-class. (RCinPower features 2)
  • Bearings. 4 × 11 × 4 mm (694), larger than the usual 4 × 9 × 4 mm (684). (RCinPower features 2)
  • Damping. A reworked damping design that RCinPower says cuts motor vibration and makes the bearings last longer. (RCinPower features 2)
  • Shaft. 4 mm semi-hollow, with a 5 mm thread for the prop nut standing 13 mm above the bell. (RCinPower 1800KV sheet)

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 1800KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.826,6403,108 Hz18,648
4S full16.830,2403,528 Hz21,168
6S nominal22.239,9604,662 Hz27,972
6S full25.245,3605,292 Hz31,752

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from RCinPower’s published sizes: the 22.5 × 7 mm stator, 27.7 mm bell, 19.7 mm height, 5 mm shaft, 16 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything RCinPower doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
