5-inch FPV racing motor

MEPS SZ2207 V2

A 5-inch racing motor that also flies freestyle: a 6082 aluminium one-piece bell, a TC4 titanium shaft, N52H magnets, and 1778.5 g of thrust per motor at full throttle on MEPS's 25.2 V bench (1950KV, SZ5145).

  • 5-inch racing and freestyle
  • 6S (1750KV, 1950KV) or 4S (2750KV)
  • 5-inch three-blade props (MEPS SZ5145, SZ4942)
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 2207 motor drawn from MEPS’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are MEPS’s bench figures for the MEPS SZ5145 prop at 25.2 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 10% throttle.

At 60% with the MEPS SZ5145: 1,025 g of thrust, 16.0 A, 400 W, 2.56 g per watt.

On your quad

10.9 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 7,114 g with the MEPS SZ5145 at 25.2 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 4,099 g, 6.3 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

What you get for $12.90

  • Thicker arms

MEPS says V2 uses fewer, thicker support arms than V1 for better crash resistance, and adds an anti-slip pattern on the prop mount.

  • Named materials

    A 6082 aluminium one-piece bell, a TC4 titanium shaft, N52H magnets, NMB bearings and 220 °C enamelled wire.

  • Thrust data for every KV

    Full throttle with the SZ5145: 1638.7 g (1750KV) and 1778.5 g (1950KV) on 25.2 V, 1588.1 g (2750KV) on 16.8 V.

    Source: MEPS data test

  • Less current than V1

MEPS's tables give V2 lower idle and peak currents than V1 in every KV, e.g. 41.7 A against 46.9 A peak for the 1950KV.

What to pair it with

Our reading of MEPS’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.

ESC
MEPS's own peak currents are 34.7 A (1750KV), 41.7 A (1950KV) and 50.7 A (2750KV), and its full-throttle tests reach 45.1 A (1950KV) and 56.3 A (2750KV). Use a 45 A ESC for the 1750KV, 50 A or more for the 1950KV, and 60 A for the 2750KV. (MEPS product page, MEPS data test)
Props
MEPS tested its SZ5145 and SZ4942 three-blade props; the SZ5145 pulls 156–161 g more at full throttle. (MEPS data test)
Battery
6S for 1750KV and 1950KV, 4S for 2750KV. (MEPS product page)
Frame
Four M3 screws on a 16 mm circle (the 16 × 16 pattern of 5-inch frames); M3×8 and M3×9 screws come in the box. (MEPS product page, MEPS size chart)

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

  • Shaft. 5 mm TC4 titanium, M5 × 0.8 thread 7 mm long, protrudes 12.2 mm above the bell (the material is from MEPS's page (S1)). (MEPS size chart)
  • Bell. 6082 aluminium, one-piece ("Uni-Bell"). (MEPS product page)
  • Magnets. N52H. (MEPS product page)
  • Stator. The coils are wound on a stack of thin steel laminations: 22 × 7 mm (2207) (MEPS's page calls it the 2207 stator). (MEPS product page)
  • Base. 4 × M3 holes on a 16 mm circle. (MEPS size chart)

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 1950KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.828,8603,367 Hz20,202
4S full16.832,7603,822 Hz22,932
6S nominal22.243,2905,051 Hz30,303
6S full25.249,1405,733 Hz34,398

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from MEPS’s published sizes: the 22 × 7 mm stator, 28.93 mm bell, 19.8 mm height, 5 mm shaft, 16 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything MEPS doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
