3–4-inch cinewhoop, toothpick and long-range FPV motor

MEPS SZ2004 V2

A 17.8 g uni-bell 2004 for 3–4 inch cinewhoops, toothpicks and long-range quads in 1800KV (6S) and 3000KV (4S); on MEPS's bench the 3000KV pulls 628 g on a 4023-3 at 16.8 V and the 1800KV 540 g on MEPS's SZ3046 at 25.2 V.

  • 3–4 inch cinewhoops, toothpicks and long-range quads
  • 6S (1800KV) or 4S (3000KV)
  • 3–4 inch three-blade props such as MEPS's SZ3046
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 2004 motor drawn from MEPS’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are MEPS’s bench figures for the SZ3046 prop at 25.2 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 10% throttle.

Version

MEPS's pick for 3.5-inch long-range, cinematic cinewhoop and HD camera builds on 6S. Tested at 25.2 V with 3052-3, 4023-3 and MEPS SZ3046 props.

At 60% with the SZ3046: 241 g of thrust, 3.7 A, 93 W, 2.60 g per watt.

On your quad

3.3 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 2,160 g with the SZ3046 at 25.2 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 964 g, 1.5 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

What you get

  • 628 g on 4S

    On MEPS's 16.8 V bench the 3000KV pulls 628 g at full throttle on a 4023-3 three-blade, drawing 16.1 A.

  • 540 g on 6S

    The 1800KV pulls 540 g at full throttle on MEPS's SZ3046 at 25.2 V, drawing 11.1 A.

  • 17.8 g

Both KVs weigh 17.8 g including 120 mm leads.

  • Uni-bell

MEPS describes it as an upgrade of its SZ2004: a CNC aluminium uni-bell with N52H arc magnets, NMB bearings and high-temperature copper wire.

Bench data

Redrawn from MEPS’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 1800KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.826,6403,108 Hz18,648
4S full16.830,2403,528 Hz21,168
6S nominal22.239,9604,662 Hz27,972
6S full25.245,3605,292 Hz31,752

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from MEPS’s published sizes: the 20 × 4 mm stator, 25.05 mm bell, 14.1 mm height, 1.5 mm shaft, 12 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything MEPS doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
