3–4-inch cinewhoop and freestyle FPV motor
MEPS SZ1408
A 16 g motor for 3–4 inch cinewhoops and freestyle quads: CNC-machined aluminium bell, 5 mm shaft with an M5 prop nut, and 592 g of thrust at full throttle on MEPS's 16.8 V bench (2800KV, HQ4023-3).
- 3–4 inch cinewhoops, toothpicks and freestyle
- 2800KV for smooth cinematic flying, 3950KV for racing and aggressive freestyle
- three-blade props such as the HQ3520-3 and HQ4023-3
The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 1408 motor drawn from MEPS’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are MEPS’s bench figures for the HQ4023-3 prop at 16.8 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 10% throttle.

What it pulls
MEPS’s own bench test, one line per prop. Drag across the chart to move the throttle; the model above follows.
At 60% with the HQ4023-3: 303 g of thrust, 5.2 A, 87 W, 3.46 g per watt.
On your quad
3.6 : 1
Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 2,368 g with the HQ4023-3 at 16.8 V.
At 60% throttle they pull 1,211 g, 1.9 times the quad’s weight.
All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

Bench data
Redrawn from MEPS’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor
A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:
- Shaft. 5 mm, M5 × 0.8 thread 8.5 mm long, protrudes 12.45 mm above the bell (the shaft diameter is also in the spec table (S2)). (MEPS size chart)
- Bell. CNC-machined aluminium. (MEPS product page)
- Stator. The coils are wound on a stack of thin steel laminations: 14 × 8 mm (1408) (from the model's 1408 size code; the page gives no other stator figures). (MEPS product page)
- Base. 4 × M2 holes on a 12 mm circle. (MEPS size chart)
How fast it spins
KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 2800KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.
| Battery | Volts | No-load rpm (KV × V) | Electrical frequency | ESC steps per second |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4S nominal | 14.8 | 41,440 | 4,835 Hz | 29,008 |
| 4S full | 16.8 | 47,040 | 5,488 Hz | 32,928 |
| 6S nominal | 22.2 | 62,160 | 7,252 Hz | 43,512 |
| 6S full | 25.2 | 70,560 | 8,232 Hz | 49,392 |
A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.
About the 3D model
A generic outrunner drawn from MEPS’s published sizes: the 14 × 8 mm stator, 18.97 mm bell, 16.71 mm height, 5 mm shaft, 12 mm mounting circle and 9 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything MEPS doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
