7-inch long-range FPV motor

MEPS NEON 2810

A 7–8 inch cinematic and long-range motor on a 28 × 10 mm stator: 67 g with leads, and 2447 g of thrust per motor at full throttle on MEPS's 25.2 V bench (1180KV, SZ8045 three-blade).

  • 7–8 inch cinematic and long range
  • 6S
  • 7-inch to 8.5-inch props (7040, 8045)
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 2810 motor drawn from MEPS’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are MEPS’s bench figures for the MEPS SZ8045-3 prop at 25.2 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 10% throttle.

At 60% with the MEPS SZ8045-3: 1,358 g of thrust, 17.2 A, 429 W, 3.20 g per watt.

On your quad

15.1 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 9,788 g with the MEPS SZ8045-3 at 25.2 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 5,432 g, 8.4 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

What you get for $24.99

  • 10 mm tall stator

MEPS says the 28 × 10 mm stator gives the low-end torque to swing heavy 7–8.5 inch props.

What to pair it with

Our reading of MEPS’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.

ESC
MEPS suggests a 55–65 A 4-in-1. Its peak currents are 51.6 A (1180KV) and 65.4 A (1350KV on 21 V). (MEPS product page)
Props
MEPS tested 7040 and SZ8045 three-blade props on both KVs and a T7456 on the 1350KV; its guide names 7-inch to 8.5-inch props. (MEPS product page)
Battery
6S. MEPS's guide pairs it with 6S LiPo for cinematic flying and 6S Li-ion packs for long-range cruising. (MEPS product page)
Frame
Four screws on a 19 mm circle (19 × 19 mm). (MEPS size chart)

Bench data

Redrawn from MEPS’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

  • Shaft. 5 mm, M5 × 0.8 thread 8 mm long, protrudes 15.2 mm above the bell (MEPS's page calls the shaft stainless steel in one place and TC4 titanium alloy in another). (MEPS size chart)
  • Bell. 6082 aluminium alloy. (MEPS product page)
  • Magnets. N50H. (MEPS product page)
  • Stator. The coils are wound on a stack of thin steel laminations: 28 × 10 mm (2810). (MEPS product page)
  • Bearings. NMB. (MEPS product page)
  • Base. 4 holes on a 19 mm circle, labelled M2 × 0.4 in MEPS's drawing (the same hole label as MEPS's NEON 2203.5 drawing; check the screw size with MEPS). (MEPS size chart)

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 1180KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.817,4642,037 Hz12,225
4S full16.819,8242,313 Hz13,877
6S nominal22.226,1963,056 Hz18,337
6S full25.229,7363,469 Hz20,815

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from MEPS’s published sizes: the 28 × 10 mm stator, 35.66 mm bell, 22.9 mm height, 5 mm shaft, 19 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything MEPS doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
