Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 2505.5 motor drawn from MEPS’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are MEPS’s bench figures for the MEPS SZ5145 prop at 25.2 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 10% throttle.

At 60% with the MEPS SZ5145: 957 g of thrust, 15.8 A, 394 W, 2.40 g per watt.

On your quad

10.6 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 6,872 g with the MEPS SZ5145 at 25.2 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 3,828 g, 5.9 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

What to pair it with

Our reading of MEPS’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.

ESC
MEPS's buying guide calls for a 45–60 A 4-in-1 ESC running BLHeli_32 or AM32. Its peak current is 45.3 A, the full-throttle draw of its 6S SZ5145 test. (MEPS product page)
Props
MEPS tested its SZ5145 three-blade prop on 6S and 4S, and a T6143 on 4S; its parts list also names the SZ4942, HQProp J37 and T-Hobby T5146. (MEPS product page)
Battery
6S; MEPS's guide suggests a 1100–1400 mAh 100C or higher pack. (MEPS product page)
Frame
Four M3 screws on a 16 mm circle (16 × 16 mm); MEPS's guide asks for 5 or 6-inch frames with arms at least 5 mm thick. (MEPS size chart, MEPS product page)

Bench data

Redrawn from MEPS’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

  • Shaft. 5 mm steel, M5 × 0.8 thread 8 mm long, protrudes 12.63 mm above the bell (the material is from MEPS's page (S1)). (MEPS size chart)
  • Bell. 6082 aluminium, one piece ("Uni-Bell"), with reinforced struts. (MEPS product page)
  • Magnets. N50H arc magnets. (MEPS product page)
  • Stator. The coils are wound on a stack of thin steel laminations: 25 × 5.5 mm (2505.5). (MEPS product page)
  • Winding. Pure copper wire with 220 °C enamel. (MEPS product page)
  • Base. 4 × M3 holes on a 16 mm circle (16 × 16 mm). (MEPS size chart)

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 2000KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.829,6003,453 Hz20,720
4S full16.833,6003,920 Hz23,520
6S nominal22.244,4005,180 Hz31,080
6S full25.250,4005,880 Hz35,280

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from MEPS’s published sizes: the 25 × 5.5 mm stator, 31.29 mm bell, 17.35 mm height, 5 mm shaft, 16 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything MEPS doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
