5-inch FPV freestyle motor

iFlight XING2 2405

A 5-inch motor on a 24 × 5 mm stator: a one-piece 7075 bell, a 5 mm titanium shaft, 30.7 g with wires, and 1.5 kg of pull per motor on iFlight's 24 V bench (1800KV, 51499 prop).

  • 5-inch freestyle
  • 6S, as iFlight tested both KVs
  • 5.1-inch props
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 2405 motor drawn from iFlight’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are iFlight’s bench figures for the 51499 prop at 24 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 50% throttle.

Version

iFlight tested it on 24 V, a 6S pack, with 5.1-inch props.

What it pulls

iFlight’s own bench test, one line per prop. Drag across the chart to move the throttle; the model above follows.

05001,0001,5002,00050%60%70%80%90%100%gthrottle1,504 g514991,247 g5140

At 60% with the 51499: 865 g of thrust, 12.7 A, 304 W, 2.84 g per watt.

On your quad

9.3 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 6,016 g with the 51499 at 24 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 3,460 g, 5.3 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

What you get

  • 5 mm titanium shaft

iFlight calls it its strongest prop shaft yet. It protrudes 15 mm, with 9 mm of M5 thread.

  • NSK 9 × 4 × 4 bearings

With iFlight's O-ring protecting the bearing gap.

  • Centre-slotted N52H magnets

Curved arc magnets that iFlight says cut the motor's response time, set with the air gap kept to a minimum.

  • Wire protector, balanced

A protector on the base guards the motor wires, and each motor is dynamically balanced.

What to pair it with

Our reading of iFlight’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.

ESC
Rated for at least the motor's peak current at 24 V: 35.6 A for the 1800KV and 41.3 A for the 1950KV, both on the 51499. A 45 A or bigger ESC covers either. (iFlight 1800KV datasheet, iFlight 1950KV datasheet)
Props
iFlight tested both KVs with a 51499 and a 5140. The 51499 pulled more at full throttle: 1504 g against 1247 g on the 1800KV, and 1595 g against 1324 g on the 1950KV. (iFlight 1800KV datasheet, iFlight 1950KV datasheet)
Battery
6S. iFlight sells it as a 4S–6S motor, but gives 24 V as the input and tested both KVs at 24 V. (iFlight product page, iFlight 1800KV datasheet, iFlight 1950KV datasheet)
Frame
Four M3 holes on a 16 mm circle (sold as "16 × 16"). Four M3 × 7 screws and an M5 flange nut come in the box. (iFlight product page, iFlight 1800KV datasheet)

Bench data

Redrawn from iFlight’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 1800KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.826,6403,108 Hz18,648
4S full16.830,2403,528 Hz21,168
6S nominal22.239,9604,662 Hz27,972
6S full25.245,3605,292 Hz31,752

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from iFlight’s published sizes: the 24 × 5 mm stator, 31 mm bell, 16.9 mm height, 5 mm shaft, 16 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything iFlight doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
