5-inch FPV freestyle motor

iFlight XING-E Pro 2306

A 2306 for 5-inch quads from iFlight's XING-E line: a one-piece bell, a 5 mm hollow steel shaft, NSK bearings, and 1.6 kg of pull per motor on a 5.1-inch tri-blade on iFlight's 6S bench (1700KV).

  • 5-inch freestyle and racing
  • 6S (1700KV) or 4S (2450KV)
  • 5.1-inch tri-blade props
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 2306 motor drawn from iFlight’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are iFlight’s bench figures for the Gemfan 51466 prop at 25.2 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 50% throttle.

At 60% with the Gemfan 51466: 797 g of thrust, 10.4 A, 265 W, 3.00 g per watt.

On your quad

9.9 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 6,416 g with the Gemfan 51466 at 25.2 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 3,188 g, 4.9 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

What you get for $16.99

What to pair it with

Our reading of iFlight’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.

ESC
Rated for at least the motor's peak current: 37 A for the 1700KV on 6S and 43 A for the 2450KV on 4S, both on a Nazgul 5140 at full throttle. A 45 A 4-in-1 covers both. (iFlight 1700KV test report, iFlight 2450KV test report)
Props
iFlight tested both KVs with a Nazgul 5140 and a Gemfan 51466. The 51466 pulled more at full throttle on less current: 1604 g against 1401 g on the 1700KV. (iFlight 1700KV test report, iFlight 2450KV test report)
Battery
6S for the 1700KV, 4S for the 2450KV, the voltages iFlight tested them at. (iFlight 1700KV test report, iFlight 2450KV test report)
Frame
Four M3 holes on a 16 mm circle (the "16 × 16" pattern of 5-inch frames). Four M3 × 8 screws and an M5 lock nut come in the box. (iFlight product page, iFlight 1700KV test report)

Bench data

Redrawn from iFlight’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 1700KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.825,1602,935 Hz17,612
4S full16.828,5603,332 Hz19,992
6S nominal22.237,7404,403 Hz26,418
6S full25.242,8404,998 Hz29,988

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from iFlight’s published sizes: the 23 × 6 mm stator, 29.5 mm bell, 18.7 mm height, 5 mm shaft, 16 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything iFlight doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
