5-inch FPV racing motor

iFlight R5 2207

A 2207 that iFlight designed for race quads such as its Mach R5: a one-piece bell, centre-slotted N52H magnets, and 2.1 kg of pull per motor on its Nazgul R5 V2 prop at 24 V (2100KV).

Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 2207 motor drawn from iFlight’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are iFlight’s bench figures for the Gemfan 51466 prop at 24 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 50% throttle.

At 60% with the Gemfan 51466: 1,345 g of thrust, 16.9 A, 403 W, 3.34 g per watt.

On your quad

13.9 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 9,004 g with the Gemfan 51466 at 24 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 5,380 g, 8.3 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

  • Small air gap

iFlight says the bell-to-shaft joint let it cut the magnet air gap to a minimum, for more flux and more power.

What to pair it with

Our reading of iFlight’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.

ESC
Rated for at least the motor's peak current: about 50 A for the 2100KV and 59 A for the 2220KV on 6S, and 39 A for the 1590KV at 32 V. (iFlight 2100KV test report, iFlight 1590KV test report, iFlight 2220KV test report)
Props
On the 2100KV at 24 V, the Gemfan 51466 pulled the most (2251 g at full throttle) and was the most efficient at half throttle (4.15 g/W); iFlight's Nazgul R5 V2 pulled 2119 g and the HQ R37 1951 g. (iFlight 2100KV test report)
Battery
6S for the 2050KV, 2100KV and 2220KV; iFlight gives 32 V for the 1590KV. (iFlight product page)
Frame
Four M3 holes on a 16 mm circle (the 2220KV has two). Four M3 × 8 screws and an M5 flange nut come in the box. (iFlight product page, iFlight 2100KV test report, iFlight 2220KV test report)

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 2100KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.831,0803,626 Hz21,756
4S full16.835,2804,116 Hz24,696
6S nominal22.246,6205,439 Hz32,634
6S full25.252,9206,174 Hz37,044

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from iFlight’s published sizes: the 22 × 7 mm stator, 28.2 mm bell, 19 mm height, 5 mm shaft, 16 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything iFlight doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
