1.8-inch cinewhoop motor
iFlight Defender 16 1002
The 2.7 g motor of the first Defender 16, iFlight's sub-250 g 1.8-inch cinewhoop: 14000KV on 2S, and 115 g of pull per motor on the Defender 16's tri-blade on iFlight's 8 V bench.
- 1.8-inch cinewhoops, such as iFlight's Defender 16 built before March 2024
- 2S
The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 1002 motor drawn from iFlight’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are iFlight’s bench figures for the Defender 16 1809-3 prop at 8 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 50% throttle.

What it pulls
iFlight’s own bench test, one line per prop. Drag across the chart to move the throttle; the model above follows.
At 60% with the Defender 16 1809-3: 68 g of thrust, 2.9 A, 23 W, 3.00 g per watt.
On your quad
0.7 : 1
Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 460 g with the Defender 16 1809-3 at 8 V.
At 60% throttle they pull 272 g, 0.4 times the quad’s weight.
All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.
What you get for $13.99
Made for the Defender 16
iFlight designed it for ultralight sub-250 g builds on its Defender 16 frame with a whoop-style AIO board.

Replaced by a 1103
On 5 March 2024 iFlight moved the Defender 16 from this 1002 to a 1103 14000KV motor and still sells both. iFlight says the two need different configuration dumps, so don't mix them on one quad.

What to pair it with
Our reading of iFlight’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.
- ESC
- Rated for at least 6.87 A, the peak iFlight measured at full throttle on the Defender 16 tri-blade at about 8 V. (iFlight 1002 test report)
- Props
- iFlight tested it with the Defender 16 1809-3, a 1.8-inch tri-blade with a 0.9-inch pitch: 48 g at half throttle and 115 g at full. (iFlight 1002 test report, iFlight Defender 16 prop page)
- Battery
- 2S; iFlight gives 8 V as the input, and the battery it sells for the Defender 16 is a 2S 900 mAh pack. (iFlight product page, iFlight Defender 16 battery page)
- Frame
- Three M1.4 holes on a 6.6 mm circle, the Defender 16 frame's motor mount. Four M1.4×3 screws come in the box. (iFlight product page, iFlight 1002 test report)

Redrawn from iFlight’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor
A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:
- Bell. Segmented, in iFlight's words, φ12.5 mm and 5.15 mm tall at the side, with four arms across the top. (iFlight 1002 test report)
- Shaft. 1.5 mm, protruding 3.25 mm above the bell; its end also stands out below the base. (iFlight 1002 test report)
- Magnets. Curved N52H magnets, 12 poles. (iFlight product page)
- Stator. 10 × 2 mm with 9 teeth, wound with single-strand copper; 28 AWG leads, 50 mm long, with an SH1.25 plug. (iFlight 1002 test report)
- Bearings. NMB, 4 × 1.5 × 2 mm. (iFlight 1002 test report)
- Base. 1 mm thick, with three M1.4 holes on a 6.6 mm circle. (iFlight 1002 test report)
How fast it spins
KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 14000KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.
| Battery | Volts | No-load rpm (KV × V) | Electrical frequency | ESC steps per second |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4S nominal | 14.8 | 207,200 | 20,720 Hz | 124,320 |
| 4S full | 16.8 | 235,200 | 23,520 Hz | 141,120 |
| 6S nominal | 22.2 | 310,800 | 31,080 Hz | 186,480 |
| 6S full | 25.2 | 352,800 | 35,280 Hz | 211,680 |
A 12-pole rotor has 6 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 6 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 36 times per turn.
About the 3D model
A generic outrunner drawn from iFlight’s published sizes: the 10 × 2 mm stator, 12.5 mm bell, 1.5 mm shaft, 6.6 mm mounting circle and 9 teeth and 12 magnets. Anything iFlight doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
