7-inch long-range FPV motor

Hobbywing XRotor 2807

Hobbywing’s 7-inch motor in 1300KV for 6S, 1500KV for 5S and 1700KV for 4S; on Hobbywing’s 6S bench the 1300KV pulls 2824 g on an HQ 7×3.5×3 at full throttle.

  • 7-inch long range
  • 6S (1300KV), 5S (1500KV) or 4S (1700KV)
  • 7-inch three-blade props
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 2807 motor drawn from Hobbywing’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are Hobbywing’s bench figures for the HQ7x3.5x3 prop at 24 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 40% throttle.

At 60% with the HQ7x3.5x3: 1,258 g of thrust, 13.8 A, 332 W, 3.79 g per watt.

On your quad

17.4 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 11,296 g with the HQ7x3.5x3 at 24 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 5,032 g, 7.7 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

What you get for $24.99

  • About 2.8 kg on 6S

    At full throttle on Hobbywing’s 24 V bench the 1300KV pulled 2824 g on an HQ 7×3.5×3 at 48.5 A, and 2818 g on an HQ 7×4×3 at 56.7 A.

  • Cooling rotor

The rotor has a cooling structure; Hobbywing says it runs at full load more than 40% longer than same-size motors from other brands.

  • Anti-slip prop mount

A grooved prop mount keeps the prop from slipping.

  • N52 magnets, multi-strand winding

Arc-shaped N52 magnets, 0.2 mm silicon-steel laminations and a multi-strand winding of 220 °C wire, which Hobbywing says fills the slots about 5% more.

What to pair it with

Our reading of Hobbywing’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.

ESC
Hobbywing pairs it with its XRotor FPV G2 65A 4-in-1. Peak current is 56.7 A for 6 s (1300KV), 59.5 A for 7 s (1500KV) and 53.9 A for 13 s (1700KV); Hobbywing recommends no more than 9 to 40 s at full throttle, depending on KV and prop. (Hobbywing product page, Hobbywing 1300KV spec sheet, Hobbywing 1500KV spec sheet, Hobbywing 1700KV spec sheet)
Props
Hobbywing lists the HQ 7×3.5×3 and 7×4×3. The 7×3.5 draws less: on 6S the 1300KV pulled 2824 g at 48.5 A on it, against 2818 g at 56.7 A on the 7×4. (Hobbywing product page, Hobbywing 1300KV spec sheet)
Battery
6S for the 1300KV, 5S for the 1500KV and 4S for the 1700KV, the voltages Hobbywing benched them at; rated 4S–6S, 4S–5S and 3S–4S. (Hobbywing product page, Hobbywing 1300KV spec sheet, Hobbywing 1500KV spec sheet, Hobbywing 1700KV spec sheet)
Frame
Four M3 holes on a 19 mm circle; 18 AWG leads, 200 mm long. (Hobbywing product page)

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 1300KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.819,2402,245 Hz13,468
4S full16.821,8402,548 Hz15,288
6S nominal22.228,8603,367 Hz20,202
6S full25.232,7603,822 Hz22,932

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from Hobbywing’s published sizes: the 28 × 7 mm stator, 34 mm bell, 20.5 mm height, 5 mm shaft, 19 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything Hobbywing doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
