8- to 9-inch FPV motor
Hobbywing RTF 2812
Hobbywing’s RTF-line 2812 for 8- and 9-inch props, in 900KV and 1100KV; on Hobbywing’s 6S bench the 900KV pulls 3355 g on an HQ 9×5×3 and the 1100KV 3722 g on an HQ 8×4.5×3 at full throttle.
- 8- to 9-inch FPV
- 6S (both KVs, rated 4S–6S)
- 9-inch props (900KV) or 8-inch props (both KVs)
The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 2812 motor drawn from Hobbywing’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are Hobbywing’s bench figures for the HQ9x5x3 prop at 24 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 40% throttle.

- 3,355 g
- HQ9x5x3 prop, 24 V
- Weight
- 83.4 g
- 1100KV 83.8 g; Hobbywing does not say whether the leads are included

What it pulls
Hobbywing’s own bench test, one line per prop. Drag across the chart to move the throttle; the model above follows.
At 60% with the HQ9x5x3: 1,483 g of thrust, 14.4 A, 346 W, 4.29 g per watt.
On your quad
20.6 : 1
Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 13,420 g with the HQ9x5x3 at 24 V.
At 60% throttle they pull 5,932 g, 9.1 times the quad’s weight.
All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.
What you get for $26.99
Up to 3.7 kg on 6S
At full throttle on Hobbywing’s 24 V bench the 1100KV pulled 3722 g on an HQ 8×4.5×3 at 64.1 A, and the 900KV 3355 g on an HQ 9×5×3 at 49.6 A.

Inside the motor
A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:
- Bell. A rotor with a cooling structure and a grooved prop mount. (Hobbywing product page)
- Stator. 0.2 mm silicon-steel laminations; 12 slots and 14 magnet poles. (Hobbywing product page)
- Winding. Multi-strand winding of enamelled wire rated for 220 °C. (Hobbywing product page, Hobbywing 900KV spec sheet)
- Magnets. Arc-shaped. (Hobbywing product page)
- Shaft. 5 mm with an M5 × 0.8 thread, standing 15 mm above the bell; the last 9 mm is threaded. (Hobbywing product page, Hobbywing drawing)
- Base. Four M3 holes on a 19 mm circle; three 18 AWG black silicone leads, 250 mm long. (Hobbywing product page, Hobbywing drawing)
How fast it spins
KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 900KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.
| Battery | Volts | No-load rpm (KV × V) | Electrical frequency | ESC steps per second |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4S nominal | 14.8 | 13,320 | 1,554 Hz | 9,324 |
| 4S full | 16.8 | 15,120 | 1,764 Hz | 10,584 |
| 6S nominal | 22.2 | 19,980 | 2,331 Hz | 13,986 |
| 6S full | 25.2 | 22,680 | 2,646 Hz | 15,876 |
A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.
About the 3D model
A generic outrunner drawn from Hobbywing’s published sizes: the 28 × 12 mm stator, 34 mm bell, 25.5 mm height, 5 mm shaft, 19 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything Hobbywing doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
