Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 2810 motor drawn from Hobbywing’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are Hobbywing’s bench figures for the HQ8x4x3 prop at 24 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 33% throttle.

At 60% with the HQ8x4x3: 1,436 g of thrust, 14.7 A, 354 W, 4.10 g per watt.

On your quad

20.2 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 13,116 g with the HQ8x4x3 at 24 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 5,744 g, 8.8 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

What you get

  • About 3.3 kg on 6S

On Hobbywing’s 24 V bench it pulled 3279 g on an HQ 8×4×3 at 52.7 A, in line with its rated 3.3 kg.

  • Cooling rotor

Hobbywing says the RTF motors’ rotors have a cooling structure and run at full load more than 40% longer than same-size motors from other brands.

  • Anti-slip prop mount

A grooved prop mount keeps the prop from slipping.

  • Tested insulation

The coils are tested at 500 V AC, the stator is coated for 180 °C and the bearings are 685ZZ.

What to pair it with

Our reading of Hobbywing’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.

ESC
Hobbywing pairs it with its XRotor FPV 65A G2 4-in-1. Peak current is 53 A for 12 s; its full-throttle run on the HQ 8×4×3 drew 52.7 A, with 12 s given for that table. (Hobbywing product page, Hobbywing datasheet, Hobbywing load tests, Hobbywing drawing)
Props
Hobbywing lists the HQ 7×3.5×3, 7×4×3 and 8×4×3. At full throttle they pulled 2485 g at 38.2 A, 2698 g at 46.2 A and 3279 g at 52.7 A. (Hobbywing product page, Hobbywing load tests)
Frame
Four M3 holes on a 19 mm circle; 18 AWG leads, 200 mm long. M3 × 10 mm screws come in the box. (Hobbywing product page, Hobbywing drawing)

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 1100KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.816,2801,899 Hz11,396
4S full16.818,4802,156 Hz12,936
6S nominal22.224,4202,849 Hz17,094
6S full25.227,7203,234 Hz19,404

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from Hobbywing’s published sizes: the 28 × 10 mm stator, 34 mm bell, 23.5 mm height, 5 mm shaft, 19 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything Hobbywing doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
