3- to 5-inch FPV motor

HGLRC SPECTER 2004

A 15.6 g 2004 for 3 to 5-inch quads on 4S–6S: on HGLRC’s 24 V bench the 1800KV pulled up to 1,129 g on a GF5125R, drawing 19.3 A.

  • 4S–6S
  • 4 to 5-inch props
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 2004 motor drawn from HGLRC’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are HGLRC’s bench figures for the GF5125R prop at 24 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 50% throttle.

At 60% with the GF5125R: 583 g of thrust, 6.8 A, 164 W, 4.51 g per watt.

On your quad

6.9 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 4,516 g with the GF5125R at 24 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 2,330 g, 3.6 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

What to pair it with

Our reading of HGLRC’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.

ESC
HGLRC asks for an ESC over 25 A and rates the motor at 19.3 A for 5 s. Its tables peak at 19.3 A (GF5125R, 24 V). (HGLRC product page, HGLRC spec sheet and table)
Props
4 and 5-inch props with a 5 mm, four-screw M2 hub. HGLRC tested on a GF4024R, HQT5*3R, HQT5*2*3R and GF5125R; at 24 V the GF5125R pulled most (1,129 g) and the HQT5*2*3R gave the most thrust per watt. (HGLRC spec sheet and table)
Battery
4S–6S. HGLRC’s tables are at 21 V and 24 V. (HGLRC product page, HGLRC spec sheet and table)
Frame
Four M2 holes on a 12 × 12 mm pattern. (HGLRC product page, HGLRC spec sheet and table)

Bench data

Redrawn from HGLRC’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 1800KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.826,6403,108 Hz18,648
4S full16.830,2403,528 Hz21,168
6S nominal22.239,9604,662 Hz27,972
6S full25.245,3605,292 Hz31,752

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from HGLRC’s published sizes: the 20 × 4 mm stator, 24.78 mm bell, 13.15 mm height, 1.5 mm shaft, 12 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything HGLRC doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
