3 to 4-inch FPV motor

HGLRC SPECTER 1804

A 13.3 g 1804 for 3 to 4-inch quads: on HGLRC’s 24 V bench the 2450KV pulled up to 815 g on a GF 4023R×3, drawing 18 A.

  • 3 to 4-inch freestyle and cruising
  • 6S or 4S (2450KV), 3S–4S (3500KV)
  • 3 to 4-inch props
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 1804 motor drawn from HGLRC’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are HGLRC’s bench figures for the GF 4023R*3 prop at 24 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 50% throttle.

Version

At 60% with the GF 4023R*3: 380 g of thrust, 6.7 A, 161 W, 2.69 g per watt.

On your quad

5.0 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 3,260 g with the GF 4023R*3 at 24 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 1,519 g, 2.3 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

What to pair it with

Our reading of HGLRC’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.

ESC
HGLRC asks for a 25–35 A ESC. The 2450KV’s tables peak at 18 A (GF 4023R×3, 24 V); HGLRC’s spec image gives the 3500KV 24.5 A. (HGLRC product page, HGLRC spec image, HGLRC spec sheet and tables)
Props
3 to 4-inch. HGLRC tested the 2450KV on HQ T76×3, HQ D90×3, GF 4024R×2 and GF 4023R×3; at 24 V the two 4-inch props pulled most (805 g and 815 g). (HGLRC spec image, HGLRC spec sheet and tables)
Battery
4S–6S for the 2450KV, 3S–4S for the 3500KV. (HGLRC spec image)
Frame
Four M2 holes on a 12 × 12 mm pattern. The bell also has four M2 holes on a 5 mm circle for bolt-on props. (HGLRC spec image, HGLRC spec sheet and tables)

Bench data

Redrawn from HGLRC’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 2450KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.836,2604,230 Hz25,382
4S full16.841,1604,802 Hz28,812
6S nominal22.254,3906,346 Hz38,073
6S full25.261,7407,203 Hz43,218

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from HGLRC’s published sizes: the 18 × 4 mm stator, 22.68 mm bell, 13.2 mm height, 1.5 mm shaft, 12 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything HGLRC doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
