2.5 to 4-inch FPV motor
HGLRC SPECTER 1404
A 10 g 1404 for 2.5 to 4-inch props in three windings: the 2750KV pulled up to 405 g on HGLRC’s 22.2 V bench, the 5500KV up to 475 g at 14.8 V.
- 2-inch cinewhoops and 4-inch toothpicks
- 4S–6S (2750KV), 3S–4S (4800KV) or 2S–4S (5500KV)
- 2.5 to 4-inch props
The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 1404 motor drawn from HGLRC’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are HGLRC’s bench figures for the HQ 3*3*3 prop at 22.2 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 50% throttle.

What it pulls
HGLRC’s own bench test, one line per prop. Drag across the chart to move the throttle; the model above follows.
At 60% with the HQ 3*3*3: 210 g of thrust, 2.5 A, 56 W, 4.53 g per watt.
On your quad
2.5 : 1
Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 1,620 g with the HQ 3*3*3 at 22.2 V.
At 60% throttle they pull 839 g, 1.3 times the quad’s weight.
All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

What to pair it with
Our reading of HGLRC’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.
- ESC
- HGLRC asks for an ESC over 15 A for the 2750KV. Its tables peak at 6.9 A (2750KV, 22.2 V), 15.1 A (4800KV, 14.8 V) and 15.8 A (5500KV, 14.8 V), so the 4800KV and 5500KV want 20 A or more. (HGLRC product page, HGLRC spec sheet and tables)
- Props
- 2.5 to 4-inch. HGLRC tested on HQ 3×2.5×3, HQ 3×3×3 and Gemfan 4×2×2 props, and the 5500KV also on a GF2.5×4×3; at 14.8 V the 4-inch prop pulled most on the 2750KV (351 g). (HGLRC spec sheet and tables)
- Battery
- 4S–6S for the 2750KV, 3S–4S for the 4800KV, 2S–4S for the 5500KV. (HGLRC spec sheet and tables)
- Frame
- Four M2 holes on a 9 × 9 mm pattern. The bell also has four M2 holes on a 5 mm circle for bolt-on props. (HGLRC spec sheet and tables)

Bench data
Redrawn from HGLRC’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor
A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:
- Bell. One-piece 7075 aluminium rotor, anodised in two colours. (HGLRC product page)
- Magnets. Customised N52H arc magnets. (HGLRC product page, HGLRC spec sheet and tables)
- Stator. 9N12P on Kawasaki silicon-steel laminations, which HGLRC says cut heat and losses, wound with 200° high-temperature copper wire. (HGLRC product page, HGLRC spec sheet and tables)
- Shaft and bearings. Alloy-steel shaft on ISC bearings. (HGLRC product page, HGLRC spec sheet and tables)
How fast it spins
KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 2750KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.
| Battery | Volts | No-load rpm (KV × V) | Electrical frequency | ESC steps per second |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4S nominal | 14.8 | 40,700 | 4,070 Hz | 24,420 |
| 4S full | 16.8 | 46,200 | 4,620 Hz | 27,720 |
| 6S nominal | 22.2 | 61,050 | 6,105 Hz | 36,630 |
| 6S full | 25.2 | 69,300 | 6,930 Hz | 41,580 |
A 12-pole rotor has 6 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 6 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 36 times per turn.
About the 3D model
A generic outrunner drawn from HGLRC’s published sizes: the 14 × 4 mm stator, 19.13 mm bell, 12.25 mm height, 1.5 mm shaft, 9 mm mounting circle and 9 teeth and 12 magnets. Anything HGLRC doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
