2–3 inch toothpick motor

HappyModel EX1103

An 11 × 3 mm motor for toothpicks and 2S micros: 3.7–3.8 g, a 1.5 mm shaft, five KVs from 1S to 4S, and up to 157.5 g of thrust on HappyModel's bench (6000KV, 4S, 65 mm prop).

  • Toothpick builds
  • Mobula8 and Bassline replacement (11000KV)
  • 40–75 mm props
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 1103 motor drawn from HappyModel’s published sizes, not its exact design. No-load speed is KV × 7.4 V, a nominal pack for this version. HappyModel’s bench tables for it step by thrust rather than throttle, so they are in the bench data below, not on this readout.

Version

Sold as a spare for HappyModel's Mobula8 and Bassline; 3.8 g. Tested at 7.4 V with a 2023R prop.

Weight

What to pair it with

Our reading of HappyModel’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.

ESC
HappyModel's bench tops out at 9.2 A (11000KV on 7.4 V), 8.3 A (12000KV on 7.4 V), 5.9 A (8000KV on 11.1 V) and 4.6 A (6000KV on 14.8 V). An ESC rated 10 A per motor covers each of them, if it takes that version's battery. (HappyModel product page, HappyModel 11000KV page)
Props
HappyModel rates it for 40–75 mm props. Its tests used a 1935 three-blade and a 65 mm two-blade prop, and a 2023R on the 11000KV. (HappyModel product page, HappyModel 11000KV page)
Battery
1S–2S for 11000KV and 12000KV, 2S–3S for 7000KV and 8000KV, 3S–4S for 6000KV. (HappyModel product page, HappyModel 11000KV page)
Frame
Three M1.4 screws on a 6.6 mm circle. (HappyModel drawing)

Bench data

Redrawn from HappyModel’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 11000KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.8162,80016,280 Hz97,680
4S full16.8184,80018,480 Hz110,880
6S nominal22.2244,20024,420 Hz146,520
6S full25.2277,20027,720 Hz166,320

A 12-pole rotor has 6 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 6 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 36 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from HappyModel’s published sizes: the 11 × 3 mm stator, 13.5 mm bell, 10 mm height, 1.5 mm shaft, 6.6 mm mounting circle and 9 teeth and 12 magnets. Anything HappyModel doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
