7- to 8-inch long-range FPV motor

GEPRC SPEEDX2 2809 V1.1

A 60 g 2809 for 7 to 8-inch long-range builds on 6S; on GEPRC’s bench the 1280KV pulls 2,883 g at full throttle on an 8*4*3 prop and the 1450KV 2,795 g on a 7.5*3*3.

Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 2809 motor drawn from GEPRC’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are GEPRC’s bench figures for the 8*4*3 prop at 24.94 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 50% throttle.

Version

For 7 to 8-inch props. 59.06 A peak. GEPRC’s bench tables are at about 24.4–24.9 V.

On your quad

17.7 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 11,532 g with the 8*4*3 at 24.94 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 5,876 g, 9.0 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

  • Heat-treated 5 mm shaft

GEPRC carburises and heat-treats the 5 mm shaft, which has an M5 thread and stands 15 mm above the bell.

ESC
GEPRC recommends a 50–70 A ESC. Its tables peak at 59.06 A (1280KV on an 8*4*3) and 60.88 A (1450KV on a 7*4*3). (GEPRC 1450KV spec image, GEPRC 1280KV spec image, GEPRC 1450KV data sheet, GEPRC 1280KV datasheet)
Props
7 to 8-inch. GEPRC tested the 1280KV on 7*4*3, 7.5*3.7*3 and 8*4*3 props, where the 8-inch pulled most, and the 1450KV on 7*4*3, 7.5*3.7*3 and 7.5*3*3, where the 7.5*3*3 pulled most. (GEPRC 1450KV data sheet, GEPRC 1280KV datasheet)
Frame
Four M3 holes on a 19 × 19 mm pattern; GEPRC names 7 to 7.5-inch long-range frames and X8 builds. (GEPRC product page, GEPRC drawing)

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 1280KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.818,9442,210 Hz13,261
4S full16.821,5042,509 Hz15,053
6S nominal22.228,4163,315 Hz19,891
6S full25.232,2563,763 Hz22,579

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from GEPRC’s published sizes: the 28 × 9 mm stator, 34.2 mm bell, 21.7 mm height, 5 mm shaft, 19 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything GEPRC doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
