2 to 4-inch FPV motor

GEPRC SPEEDX2 1404

A 10.5 g 1404 for 2 to 4-inch lightweight quads: the 3000KV pulls up to 266 g on GEPRC’s 16 V bench, and the 4600KV up to 314 g at 12 V.

  • 2 to 4-inch lightweight quads
  • 4S (3000KV) or 3S–4S (4600KV)
  • 3 to 4-inch props (3000KV) or 2 to 3-inch (4600KV)
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 1404 motor drawn from GEPRC’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are GEPRC’s bench figures for the Nazgul 4030 prop at 16 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 50% throttle.

At 60% with the Nazgul 4030: 145 g of thrust, 3.4 A, 54 W, 2.70 g per watt.

On your quad

1.6 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 1,064 g with the Nazgul 4030 at 16 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 580 g, 0.9 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

What to pair it with

Our reading of GEPRC’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.

ESC
GEPRC lists a 12 A ESC for the 3000KV and 20 A for the 4600KV. Its tables peak at 9.92 A (3000KV, 16 V) and 14.3 A (4600KV, 12 V). (GEPRC spec image, GEPRC datasheet)
Props
3 to 4-inch for the 3000KV, which GEPRC tested on an Avan Scimitar 3.5×2.8×3 and a Nazgul 4030 (the 4030 pulled more); 2 to 3-inch for the 4600KV, tested on HQ T3×3×3, HQ Durable Prop T3×3 and HQ T2×2.5×3. (GEPRC spec image, GEPRC datasheet)
Battery
4S for the 3000KV, 3S–4S for the 4600KV. (GEPRC spec image)
Frame
Four M2 holes on a 9 × 9 mm pattern; GEPRC says it suits 2 to 4-inch lightweight frames. (GEPRC product page, GEPRC drawing)

Bench data

Redrawn from GEPRC’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 3000KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.844,4004,440 Hz26,640
4S full16.850,4005,040 Hz30,240
6S nominal22.266,6006,660 Hz39,960
6S full25.275,6007,560 Hz45,360

A 12-pole rotor has 6 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 6 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 36 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from GEPRC’s published sizes: the 14 × 4 mm stator, 18.2 mm bell, 13.8 mm height, 1.5 mm shaft, 9 mm mounting circle and 9 teeth and 12 magnets. Anything GEPRC doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
