3-inch cinewhoop and 4-inch FPV motor

FPVCycle 23mm Short

FPVCycle’s cinewhoop motor: a 23 mm stator a little over 3 mm tall, 3450KV for 3-inch ducted builds on 3S–4S or 2350KV for 6S, about 17 g.

  • 3-inch ducted cinewhoops
  • 4-inch builds
  • light 5-inch (2350KV on 3S–4S)
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 23mm motor drawn from FPVCycle’s published sizes, not its exact design. No-load speed is KV × 14.8 V, a nominal pack for this version. FPVCycle publishes no bench data for it.

Version

FPVCycle’s uses: 3-inch ducted cinewhoop on 3S–4S, 4-inch on 3S–4S. Listed as sold out.

Weight
17 g
about 17 g with about 80 mm of lead; about 20 g with the prop adapter, nut and 240 mm of 24 AWG lead

What you get

  • Built for cinewhoops

FPVCycle designed it for 3-inch ducted whoops, any 4-inch craft and light 5-inch builds.

  • 23 mm stator

The 23 mm diameter shifts the torque curve for easier throttle control than FPVCycle’s earlier 2203 and 2204, and the motor mixes with them on one craft at a similar KV.

  • M3 shaft with M5 adapter

An M3 titanium prop shaft with an M5 adapter; FPVCycle says the small M3 nut is easier to handle inside a duct.

  • Screw-retained bell

The updated version has a screw-retained bell, a new prop mount, a tweaked stator and less weight.

Props
FPVCycle matches it with Gemfan’s 75 mm cinewhoop prop in its CineSplore, the Gemfan 4023 on 4-inch frames and the Gemfan 5125 on light 5-inch frames. (FPVCycle product page)
Battery
3450KV: 3S 1000–1500 mAh or 4S 1100–1300 mAh on a 3-inch cinewhoop. 2350KV: 5S 1100–1300 mAh or 6S 850–1000 mAh on a 3-inch cinewhoop, 4S 1100–1300 mAh on a 5-inch open prop. (FPVCycle product page)
Frame

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 3450KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.851,0605,957 Hz35,742
4S full16.857,9606,762 Hz40,572
6S nominal22.276,5908,936 Hz53,613
6S full25.286,94010,143 Hz60,858

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from FPVCycle’s published sizes: the 23mm stator, 3 mm shaft and 12 mm mounting circle. Anything FPVCycle doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
