2–3-inch toothpick FPV motor

FPVCycle 13mm 1304

FPVCycle’s toothpick motor: a 1304 stator with 1 mm magnets, 6.9 g with long leads, on a 2 mm press-fit prop shaft, at 5000KV for 3-inch on 3S.

  • 3-inch toothpicks on 2S–3S
  • 2–2.5-inch on 3S–4S
  • 9 mm M2 motor mounts
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 1304 motor drawn from FPVCycle’s published sizes, not its exact design. No-load speed is KV × 11.1 V, a nominal pack for this version. FPVCycle publishes no bench data for it.

Version

FPVCycle’s 3-inch 3S drivetrain uses the 5000KV; its guide also lists it for 2-inch ducted on 4S, 2-inch on 3S–4S and 2.5–3-inch on 3S.

What you get for $14.98

  • 2 mm press-fit shaft

A 2 mm prop shaft, 5 mm tall, for 2 mm press-fit props, with T-mount screw holes as well; the 2 mm internal shaft runs all the way through.

  • 6.9 g with long leads

About 6.9 g with roughly 85 mm of 27 AWG lead, on a 1304 stator with 1 mm thick magnets.

  • A 3-inch 3S setup

    FPVCycle’s 3-inch 3S drivetrain: this motor at 5000KV, Gemfan 3016 tri-blades and a 500 mAh 3S pack, for 89–109 g all-up.

  • Sixth generation

FPVCycle calls it a sixth-generation design, with magnets, stator and windings refined for 2.5–3-inch props on 2S and 3S.

Props
On 3-inch, Gemfan 3016 tri-blades, which FPVCycle highly recommends, or 3018 twin-blades with a 2 mm press-fit hole; any blades on 2–2.5-inch. (FPVCycle product page)
Battery
2S–3S on 3-inch props (FPVCycle uses a 500 mAh 3S, or a 450 mAh 2S); 3S–4S on 2–2.5-inch. (FPVCycle product page)
ESC
On skinny-arm frames such as FPVCycle’s TP3, it suggests lowering the ESC’s startup power a notch or two from default. (FPVCycle product page)
Frame
4 × M2 holes on a 9 mm circle; FPVCycle warns the small screw threads strip if over-tightened. (FPVCycle product page)

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 5000KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.874,0008,633 Hz51,800
4S full16.884,0009,800 Hz58,800
6S nominal22.2111,00012,950 Hz77,700
6S full25.2126,00014,700 Hz88,200

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from FPVCycle’s published sizes: the 13 × 4 mm stator, 2 mm shaft and 9 mm mounting circle. Anything FPVCycle doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
