5-inch FPV freestyle motor

FlyFish Sword 2207

FlyFishRC’s budget 5-inch motor for freestyle and racing: 2207 stator, NMB bearings and N52SH magnets, 34.4 g with leads, and 1,909 g of pull per motor on FlyFishRC’s 6S bench (1850KV, HQ 5.5 × 3.5 × 3 V2).

Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 2207 motor drawn from FlyFish’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are FlyFish’s bench figures for the HQ 5.5 × 3.5 × 3 V2 prop at 25.2 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 50% throttle.

On your quad

11.7 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 7,636 g with the HQ 5.5 × 3.5 × 3 V2 at 25.2 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 3,846 g, 5.9 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

  • Budget line

FlyFishRC says larger production runs and refined machining let it sell the Sword for less, in three KVs for freestyle and racing.

What to pair it with

Our reading of FlyFish’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.

ESC
FlyFishRC gives 10-second peaks of 41.68 A (1850KV), 44.04 A (1950KV) and 43.55 A (2050KV) on 6S. A 45 A ESC covers all three. (FlyFishRC spec sheet)
Props
5 to 5.5-inch props. On FlyFishRC’s 6S bench the 1850KV and 1950KV pulled most on an HQ 5.5 × 3.5 × 3 V2 (1,908.9 g and 1,916.5 g) and less on an HQ S5; the 2050KV pulled about 1,732 g on both an HQ 51466 and an HQ R36. (FlyFishRC spec sheet)
Battery
6S for all three versions. (FlyFishRC product page)
Frame
Four M3 holes on a 16 mm circle (16 × 16 mm) and 150 mm 20 AWG leads. (FlyFishRC product page, FlyFishRC spec sheet)

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 1850KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.827,3803,194 Hz19,166
4S full16.831,0803,626 Hz21,756
6S nominal22.241,0704,792 Hz28,749
6S full25.246,6205,439 Hz32,634

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from FlyFish’s published sizes: the 22 × 7 mm stator, 26.9 mm bell, 18.9 mm height, 5 mm shaft, 16 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything FlyFish doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
