5-inch FPV freestyle motor

FlyFish Flash 2207

A 5-inch freestyle motor: 2207 stator in a one-piece 7075 aluminium bell, NMB bearings and N52SH magnets, and 1,814 g of pull per motor on FlyFishRC’s 24 V bench (1850KV, HQ S5).

Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 2207 motor drawn from FlyFish’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are FlyFish’s bench figures for the HQ S5 prop at 24 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 50% throttle.

On your quad

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 7,258 g with the HQ S5 at 24 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 3,542 g, 5.4 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

ESC
FlyFishRC gives a 10-second peak of 40.01 A for the 1850KV, 41.42 A for the 1950KV and 42.70 A for the 2005KV on 24 V, and 44.51 A for the 2750KV on 16 V (44.93 A in its GF 51466 test). A 45 A ESC covers all four. (FlyFishRC spec sheet (grey and purple), FlyFishRC spec sheet (black))
Props
5-inch props. On FlyFishRC’s 24 V bench the 1850KV pulled most on an HQ S5 (1,814 g) and least on an HQ R35 (1,642 g); the 1950KV and 2005KV pulled 1,668–1,754 g; the 2750KV pulled 1,371–1,395 g on 16 V. (FlyFishRC spec sheet (grey and purple), FlyFishRC spec sheet (black))
Battery
6S for the 1850KV, 1950KV and 2005KV; 4S for the 2750KV, which FlyFishRC tested on 16 V. The grey-and-purple page lists 4S/6S, the black page 6S. (FlyFishRC product page (1850KV), FlyFishRC product page (black), FlyFishRC spec sheet (grey and purple))
Frame

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 1850KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.827,3803,194 Hz19,166
4S full16.831,0803,626 Hz21,756
6S nominal22.241,0704,792 Hz28,749
6S full25.246,6205,439 Hz32,634

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from FlyFish’s published sizes: the 22 × 7 mm stator, 28.4 mm bell, 18.8 mm height, 5 mm shaft, 16 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything FlyFish doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
