2–3-inch toothpick FPV motor
FlyFish Flash 1404
A toothpick motor: 1404 stator, 9N12P, 8.9 g with leads, and 379 g of pull per motor on a 3-inch prop on FlyFishRC’s 16 V bench.
- 2–3-inch toothpicks
- 4S (rated 3S–4S)
- 3-inch props on a 1.5 mm shaft
The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 1404 motor drawn from FlyFish’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are FlyFish’s bench figures for the HQ T76mm × 3 prop at 16 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 50% throttle.

- Weight
- 8.9 g
- with 120 mm leads, from the spec sheet; the product page gives 11.5 g with short wire

What it pulls
FlyFish’s own bench test, one line per prop. Drag across the chart to move the throttle; the model above follows.
At 60% with the HQ T76mm × 3: 246 g of thrust, 7.6 A, 120 W, 2.05 g per watt.
On your quad
2.3 : 1
Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 1,518 g with the HQ T76mm × 3 at 16 V.
At 60% throttle they pull 985 g, 1.5 times the quad’s weight.
All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.
What you get for $14.90
379 g on 4S
On FlyFishRC’s 16 V bench it pulled 379.4 g at full throttle on an HQ T76mm × 3, drawing 16.5 A; on a GF 3016 × 3 it pulled 364.73 g at 17.54 A.

Bench data
Redrawn from FlyFish’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor
A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:
- Bell. One piece of 7075 aluminium (FlyFishRC’s Uni-Bell), φ19.3 mm, in a grey and purple matte finish, with four M2 holes on a 5 mm circle in the top. (FlyFishRC product page, FlyFishRC spec sheet)
- Shaft. 1.5 mm titanium alloy, standing 3 mm above the bell. (FlyFishRC product page, FlyFishRC spec sheet)
- Magnets. N52SH, which FlyFishRC describes as heat resistant. (FlyFishRC product page)
- Stator. 14 × 4 mm with 9 slots, wound with copper wire rated to 220 °C. (FlyFishRC product page)
- Bearings. NMB. (FlyFishRC product page)
- Base. Thickened, with braces protecting the lead exit, and four M2 holes on a 9 mm circle. (FlyFishRC product page, FlyFishRC spec sheet)
How fast it spins
KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 4500KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.
| Battery | Volts | No-load rpm (KV × V) | Electrical frequency | ESC steps per second |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4S nominal | 14.8 | 66,600 | 6,660 Hz | 39,960 |
| 4S full | 16.8 | 75,600 | 7,560 Hz | 45,360 |
| 6S nominal | 22.2 | 99,900 | 9,990 Hz | 59,940 |
| 6S full | 25.2 | 113,400 | 11,340 Hz | 68,040 |
A 12-pole rotor has 6 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 6 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 36 times per turn.
About the 3D model
A generic outrunner drawn from FlyFish’s published sizes: the 14 × 4 mm stator, 19.3 mm bell, 12.5 mm height, 1.5 mm shaft, 9 mm mounting circle and 9 teeth and 12 magnets. Anything FlyFish doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
