8- to 11-inch FPV motor

EMAX ECO II 3220

A 171 g motor for 8 to 11-inch props: 32 × 20 mm stator on three bearings, 19 × 19 mm M3 mount, and up to 7,323 g of pull on EMAX’s 48 V bench (500KV, HQ1050).

  • 8 to 11-inch long range and heavy lift
  • 12S (500KV) or 6S–8S (700KV, 1000KV)
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 3220 motor drawn from EMAX’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are EMAX’s bench figures for the HQ1145 prop at 32 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 30% throttle.

At 60% with the HQ1145: 2,737 g of thrust, 22.4 A, 714 W, 3.83 g per watt.

On your quad

38.6 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 25,104 g with the HQ1145 at 32 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 10,948 g, 16.8 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

ESC
EMAX’s peak currents are 74.4 A (500KV at 48 V), 82.8 A (700KV at 32 V) and 127.4 A (1000KV at 32 V on an 8-inch two-blade); at 24 V the 1000KV drew up to 117.76 A. The 500KV needs a 12S ESC rated for about 80 A, the 700KV about 90 A, and the 1000KV 130 A. (EMAX USA product page, EMAX spec sheet and bench tables)
Props
10 to 11-inch for the 500KV and 700KV, 8 to 10-inch for the 1000KV. EMAX tested the first two on 10 and 11-inch three-blades and the 1000KV on 9 and 10-inch three-blades and an 8-inch two-blade. (EMAX spec sheet and bench tables)
Battery
12S for the 500KV, 6S–8S for the 700KV and 1000KV; EMAX ran its tests at 48 V, 32 V and 24 V. (EMAX spec sheet and bench tables, EMAX USA product page)
Frame
Four M3 holes, 19 × 19 mm; four M3×10 screws and an M5 nylock nut come in the box. (EMAX spec sheet and bench tables, EMAX USA product page)

Bench data

Redrawn from EMAX’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 700KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.810,3601,209 Hz7,252
4S full16.811,7601,372 Hz8,232
6S nominal22.215,5401,813 Hz10,878
6S full25.217,6402,058 Hz12,348

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from EMAX’s published sizes: the 32 × 20 mm stator, 39.1 mm bell, 37.8 mm height, 5 mm shaft, 19 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything EMAX doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
