A 2004 that BrotherHobby pitches for sub-250 g 5-inch racing: 20 × 4 mm stator, 14.9 g, 1.5 mm shaft, and 977 g of pull per motor on a 5-inch tri-blade on its 24 V bench (1950KV).

  • Sub-250 g 5-inch racing
  • 6S (1700KV, 1950KV) or 4S (2100KV, 3150KV)
  • 5-inch tri-blade props with a 1.5 mm T-mount
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 2004 motor drawn from BrotherHobby’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are BrotherHobby’s bench figures for the GF T-mount 51 × 25 × 3 prop at 24 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 30% throttle.

At 60% with the GF T-mount 51 × 25 × 3: 487 g of thrust, 6.6 A, 158 W, 3.07 g per watt.

On your quad

6.0 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 3,908 g with the GF T-mount 51 × 25 × 3 at 24 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 1,948 g, 3.0 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

What to pair it with

Our reading of BrotherHobby’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.

ESC
BrotherHobby gives no ESC rating. Its bench peaks were 18.8 A (1950KV on 6S), 13.4 A (2100KV on 4S) and 32.5 A (3150KV on 4S), so the 3150KV needs much more ESC than the others. (BrotherHobby 1950KV and 2100KV load tests, BrotherHobby 3150KV load test)
Props
5-inch tri-blades on a 1.5 mm T-mount: on a GF 51 × 25 × 3 the 1950KV pulled 977 g on 24 V, the 2100KV 670 g and the 3150KV 1,036 g on 16 V. (BrotherHobby spec sheet, BrotherHobby 1950KV and 2100KV load tests, BrotherHobby 3150KV load test)
Battery
6S for the 1700KV and 1950KV, 4S for the 2100KV and 3150KV. (BrotherHobby spec sheet)
Frame
Four M2 holes on a 12 mm circle (12 × 12 mm). Four M2 × 6 base screws and two M2 × 7 prop screws come in the box. (BrotherHobby product page, BrotherHobby drawing, BrotherHobby packing list)

Bench data

Redrawn from BrotherHobby’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 1950KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.828,8603,367 Hz20,202
4S full16.832,7603,822 Hz22,932
6S nominal22.243,2905,051 Hz30,303
6S full25.249,1405,733 Hz34,398

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from BrotherHobby’s published sizes: the 20 × 4 mm stator, 24.6 mm bell, 13.4 mm height, 1.5 mm shaft, 12 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything BrotherHobby doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
