5–6-inch FPV freestyle and racing motor

BetaFPV Snow 2306

A 34 g 2306 for 5–6 inch quads in 1860KV (6S) and 2500KV (4S); on BetaFPV's bench it pulls 1668 g at 24 V (1860KV) and 1414 g at 16 V (2500KV) on a Gemfan Hurricane 51433 three-blade.

  • 5–6 inch freestyle and racing quads
  • 6S (1860KV) or 4S (2500KV)
  • Gemfan 51433, 51466 MCK V2 and Freestyle 3S three-blade props
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 2306 motor drawn from BetaFPV’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are BetaFPV’s bench figures for the 51433-3B prop at 24 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 40% throttle.

At 60% with the 51433-3B: 587 g of thrust, 7.1 A, 170 W, 3.48 g per watt.

On your quad

10.3 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 6,672 g with the 51433-3B at 24 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 2,348 g, 3.6 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

What you get

What to pair it with

Our reading of BetaFPV’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.

ESC
BetaFPV calls for at least a 40 A ESC. On its bench the 1860KV draws up to 37.20 A at 24 V and the 2500KV up to 44.37 A at 16 V, both on the Gemfan 51466 MCK V2. (BetaFPV product page, BetaFPV 1860KV drawing and bench table, BetaFPV 2500KV drawing and bench table)
Props
BetaFPV recommends Gemfan Freestyle 3S, Hurricane 51433 and 51466 MCK V2 three-blade props on 5 mm shafts, and tested all three. (BetaFPV product page, BetaFPV 1860KV drawing and bench table, BetaFPV 2500KV drawing and bench table)
Battery
6S for the 1860KV, 4S for the 2500KV. BetaFPV suggests 6S 1300 mAh or 4S 1500 mAh 120C packs, for a takeoff weight of about 600 g or 580 g. (BetaFPV product page, BetaFPV banner)
Frame
5–6 inch frames; four M3 screws on a 16 mm circle. M3×8 and M3×10 screws come in the box. (BetaFPV product page, BetaFPV 1860KV drawing and bench table)

Bench data

Redrawn from BetaFPV’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 1860KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.827,5283,212 Hz19,270
4S full16.831,2483,646 Hz21,874
6S nominal22.241,2924,817 Hz28,904
6S full25.246,8725,468 Hz32,810

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from BetaFPV’s published sizes: the 23 × 6 mm stator, 29.3 mm bell, 18.3 mm height, 5 mm shaft, 16 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything BetaFPV doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
