2.5-inch cinewhoop motor

BetaFPV LAVA 1506

A 4S motor for 2.5-inch cinewhoops such as BetaFPV's Pavo25 V2: 13.6 g, and 497 g of thrust per motor at full throttle on Gemfan D63 three-blade props on BetaFPV's 16 V bench.

Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 1506 motor drawn from BetaFPV’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are BetaFPV’s bench figures for the GF-D63-3B prop at 16 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 30% throttle.

At 60% with the GF-D63-3B: 207 g of thrust, 6.3 A, 101 W, 2.05 g per watt.

On your quad

3.1 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 1,988 g with the GF-D63-3B at 16 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 828 g, 1.3 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

What you get

  • 497 g on 4S

    At full throttle on BetaFPV's 16 V bench it pulls 497 g on Gemfan D63 three-blade props, drawing 19.59 A.

  • 15 g more than the 1505

BetaFPV says it gives 15 g more maximum thrust than its 1505 4600KV motor, with smoother power.

What to pair it with

Our reading of BetaFPV’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.

ESC
BetaFPV pairs it with its F722 35A AIO V2 flight controller. On its bench a motor draws up to 19.59 A at full throttle on 16 V. (BetaFPV product page, BetaFPV drawing and bench table)
Props
BetaFPV recommends Gemfan D63 three-blade props (1.5 mm shaft); its bench uses them. (BetaFPV product page, BetaFPV drawing and bench table)
Battery
4S; BetaFPV suggests its LAVA 4S 850 mAh and 4S 650 mAh packs. (BetaFPV product page)
Frame
Four M2 screws on a 12 mm circle; BetaFPV names its Pavo25 V2. M2×5 and M2×7 screws come in the box. (BetaFPV product page)

Bench data

Redrawn from BetaFPV’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 4200KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.862,1607,252 Hz43,512
4S full16.870,5608,232 Hz49,392
6S nominal22.293,24010,878 Hz65,268
6S full25.2105,84012,348 Hz74,088

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from BetaFPV’s published sizes: the 15 × 6 mm stator, 20 mm bell, 14.8 mm height, 1.5 mm shaft and 12 mm mounting circle. Anything BetaFPV doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
