3-inch cinewhoop and 3–5-inch toothpick motor

BetaFPV 1506

A 14 g 1506 at 3000KV for BetaFPV's Pavo30 whoop and 3–5-inch toothpicks, rated 3S–6S; on BetaFPV's 16 V bench it reaches 485 g at 17.41 A on a Gemfan D76 five-blade.

  • 3-inch whoops such as the Pavo30
  • 3–5-inch toothpicks such as the TWIG and X-Knight 4
  • 4S–6S
  • Gemfan D76 five-blade or other 3–5-inch props on a 1.5 mm shaft
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 1506 motor drawn from BetaFPV’s published sizes, not its exact design. No-load speed is KV × 22.2 V, a nominal pack for this version. BetaFPV’s bench tables for it step by thrust rather than throttle, so they are in the bench data below, not on this readout.

What you get

  • 485 g on 4S

    On BetaFPV's 16 V bench it reaches 485 g on a Gemfan D76 five-blade, drawing 17.41 A.

  • Made for the Pavo30

BetaFPV made it for its Pavo30 whoop and names its TWIG 3–5-inch and X-Knight 4-inch frames as the best fit.

  • Bare leads

40 mm of 24 AWG lead with no plug, which BetaFPV says makes cutting and soldering easier.

What to pair it with

Our reading of BetaFPV’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.

ESC
BetaFPV pairs it with its Toothpick F4 20A AIO flight controller. On its 16 V bench a motor draws 17.41 A at 485 g, its last step. (BetaFPV product page, BetaFPV drawing and bench table)
Props
3–5-inch props on a 1.5 mm shaft, such as the Gemfan D76 five-blade its bench uses; props bolt to four M2 holes on a 5 mm circle. (BetaFPV product page, BetaFPV drawing and bench table)
Battery
4S–6S; BetaFPV suggests its 450 mAh and 850 mAh 4S packs. (BetaFPV product page)
Frame
Four M2 screws on a 12 mm circle; BetaFPV names its Pavo30, TWIG 3–5-inch and X-Knight 4-inch frames. (BetaFPV product page, BetaFPV drawing and bench table)

Bench data

Redrawn from BetaFPV’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 3000KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.844,4005,180 Hz31,080
4S full16.850,4005,880 Hz35,280
6S nominal22.266,6007,770 Hz46,620
6S full25.275,6008,820 Hz52,920

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from BetaFPV’s published sizes: the 15 × 6 mm stator, 21 mm bell, 14.5 mm height, 1.5 mm shaft and 12 mm mounting circle. Anything BetaFPV doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
