1S tiny whoop motor

BetaFPV 0802

A 1S whoop motor for BetaFPV's Air75 II: 1.88 g, and 55 g of thrust per motor at full throttle on Gemfan 1614 three-blade props on BetaFPV's bench (Racing, 25000KV).

  • 75 mm 1S whoops such as the Air75 II
  • 1S (all three versions)
  • Gemfan 1614 three-blade props
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 0802 motor drawn from BetaFPV’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are BetaFPV’s bench figures for the GF 1614-3P prop at 3.93 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 20% throttle.

At 60% with the GF 1614-3P: 30 g of thrust, 3.6 A, 14 W, 2.13 g per watt.

On your quad

0.3 : 1

Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 220 g with the GF 1614-3P at 3.93 V.

At 60% throttle they pull 118 g, 0.2 times the quad’s weight.

All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.

What you get for $39.99

  • 0.10 mm stator core

BetaFPV says the thinner 0.10 mm laminations cut magnetic losses and heat, for 0.1–0.2 g/W more efficiency than 0802 motors with a 0.15 mm core.

  • Three tunes

Freestyle (22000KV), Racing (25000KV) and Champion (28000KV), each with its own KV, magnetic circuit and winding.

  • 58.2 g on the Champion

    On BetaFPV's 1S bench the Champion reaches 58.2 g at full throttle on Gemfan 1614 props, drawing 9.00 A; the Racing reaches 55 g at 8.15 A.

  • Built for crashes

BetaFPV says it upgraded the rotor housing material and reinforced the shaft to withstand harder impacts.

What to pair it with

Our reading of BetaFPV’s numbers, so your build matches what the motor was tested with.

ESC
BetaFPV pairs it with its Matrix 1S 5IN1 II flight controller. On its 1S bench the Champion draws up to 9.00 A, the Racing 8.15 A and the Freestyle 5.90 A per motor. (BetaFPV product page, BetaFPV drawing and bench table)
Props
BetaFPV recommends Gemfan 1614 three-blade props (1.0 mm shaft); all its bench tests use them. (BetaFPV product page, BetaFPV drawing and bench table)
Battery
1S: BetaFPV rates it for 4.2 V and suggests its LAVA II 1S 480 mAh or 580 mAh packs. (BetaFPV product page)
Frame
Three M1.4 screws on a 6.6 mm circle; BetaFPV names its Air75 II and Meteor65 Pro frames. Twelve M1.4×3 screws come in the box. (BetaFPV product page)

Bench data

Redrawn from BetaFPV’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

  • Bell. Polished silver; the top and base are anodised purple on the Racing, orange on the Champion and cyan on the Freestyle. BetaFPV says the rotor housing material was upgraded for crash durability. (BetaFPV product page)
  • Stator. 0.10 mm laminations, against the 0.15 mm of earlier 0802 motors. (BetaFPV product page)
  • Bearings. Brass bushings on the Racing and Freestyle, dual ball bearings on the Champion. (BetaFPV product page)
  • Shaft. 1.0 mm, standing 4.0 mm above the bell. (BetaFPV product page)
  • Base. Three M1.4 holes evenly spaced on a 6.6 mm circle. (BetaFPV product page)
  • Leads. Three 30 AWG wires, 35 mm long, ending in a JST 1.25 mm three-pin plug. (BetaFPV product page)

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 25000KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.8370,00037,000 Hz222,000
4S full16.8420,00042,000 Hz252,000
6S nominal22.2555,00055,500 Hz333,000
6S full25.2630,00063,000 Hz378,000

A 12-pole rotor has 6 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 6 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 36 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from BetaFPV’s published sizes: the 8 × 2 mm stator, 10.55 mm bell, 8.8 mm height, 1 mm shaft and 6.6 mm mounting circle. Anything BetaFPV doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
