Lightweight 5-inch FPV motor

Axisflying AF223 2203.5

A 2203.5 that Axisflying made for ultralight 5-inch freestyle and long range: 19.5 g without leads, 3S–6S, and 925 g at full throttle on a GF 51466 on 4S (2910KV).

  • Ultralight 5-inch freestyle and long range
  • 6S (1610KV), 4S (2910KV) or 3S (3710KV)
  • 51466 and similar 5-inch props
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 2203.5 motor drawn from Axisflying’s published sizes, not its exact design. No-load speed is KV × 22.2 V, a nominal pack for this version. Axisflying’s bench tables for it step by thrust rather than throttle, so they are in the bench data below, not on this readout.

What you get

  • For light 5-inch builds

Axisflying pitches the AF223 at ultralight 5-inch freestyle and long-range quads, and says it shares its magnetic circuit design with the larger AF227.

  • Shielded bearings

Axisflying's bearing shield houses the bearings to an IP53 rating against dust and water; it says this keeps them smooth for longer.

Bench data

Redrawn from Axisflying’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 1610KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.823,8282,780 Hz16,680
4S full16.827,0483,156 Hz18,934
6S nominal22.235,7424,170 Hz25,019
6S full25.240,5724,733 Hz28,400

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from Axisflying’s published sizes: the 22 × 3 mm stator, 27 mm bell, 15 mm height, 5 mm shaft, 16 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything Axisflying doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
