3–3.5-inch FPV motor

Axisflying AF204 2004

A 2004 Axisflying made for 3–3.5-inch cinewhoops, ultralight freestyle and toothpicks: 15.4 g without leads, 3S–6S, and 946 g at full throttle on a GF 5125 on 4S (2910KV).

  • 3–3.5-inch cinewhoops
  • Ultralight freestyle and toothpicks
  • 6S (1810KV), 4S (2910KV) or 3S (3710KV)
Drawing the 3D model…

The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 2004 motor drawn from Axisflying’s published sizes, not its exact design. No-load speed is KV × 14.8 V, a nominal pack for this version. Axisflying’s bench tables for it step by thrust rather than throttle, so they are in the bench data below, not on this readout.

What you get

  • For small, light quads

Axisflying pitches the AF204 at 3- and 3.5-inch cinewhoops, ultralight freestyle quads and toothpicks.

  • 5-inch magnetic design

Axisflying says the AF204 borrows the magnetic circuit design of a 5-inch freestyle motor for linear, steady power, and claims less noise and heat.

  • Shielded bearings

Axisflying's bearing shield houses the bearings to an IP53 rating against dust and water; it says this keeps them smooth for longer.

  • Bench numbers

    On a GF 5125 at full throttle: 948 g at 16.61 A (1810KV on 6S), 946 g at 24.7 A (2910KV on 4S) and 849 g at 33.2 A (3710KV on 3S).

Bench data

Redrawn from Axisflying’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor

A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:

How fast it spins

KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 2910KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.

BatteryVoltsNo-load rpm (KV × V)Electrical frequencyESC steps per second
4S nominal14.843,0685,025 Hz30,148
4S full16.848,8885,704 Hz34,222
6S nominal22.264,6027,537 Hz45,221
6S full25.273,3328,555 Hz51,332

A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.

About the 3D model

A generic outrunner drawn from Axisflying’s published sizes: the 20 × 4 mm stator, 24.6 mm bell, 13.7 mm height, 1.5 mm shaft, 12 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything Axisflying doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
