5-inch FPV freestyle motor
AOS Supernova 2207
A 5-inch motor designed by AOS RC and built by RCinPower: 2207, 31 g, and up to 2,547 g of thrust per motor on RCinPower’s 24 V bench (1980KV, GF51466R).
- 5-inch freestyle and racing
- 6S (1980KV) or 8S (1570KV)
- 5-inch props
The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 2207 motor drawn from AOS’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are AOS’s bench figures for the GF51466R prop at 24 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 50% throttle.
- Max thrust
- 2,547 g
- GF51466R prop, 24 V
- Weight

- with 2 cm of wire, both KVs; AOS RC’s page gives 31 g without wires as the design target (S1)
- Peak current

What it pulls
AOS’s own bench test, one line per prop. Drag across the chart to move the throttle; the model above follows.
At 60% with the GF51466R: 1,341 g of thrust, 21.8 A, 524 W, 3.21 g per watt.
On your quad
15.7 : 1
Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 10,188 g with the GF51466R at 24 V.
At 60% throttle they pull 5,366 g, 8.3 times the quad’s weight.
All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.
What you get
About 2.5 kg of thrust on 6S
On RCinPower’s 24 V bench the 1980KV pulled 2,547 g at full throttle on a GF51466R, drawing 60.7 A.

Over 86% efficient at low current
RCinPower’s datasheets give over 86% efficiency between 5 and 11 A for the 1980KV, and between 4 and 9 A for the 1570KV.

Optimised by simulation
AOS RC says the design came out of more than 20,000 iterations of its finite element model, aiming for the most power, torque and efficiency at 31 g without wires.

AOS RC’s comparison
Against the average 2207 in AOS RC’s tests, it claims 4.6% better efficiency, 18% more thrust and 33% more torque for the 1980KV.

Bench data
Redrawn from AOS’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor
A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:
- Design. Designed by AOS RC and made by RCinPower. (AOS RC 1980KV page)
- Shaft. A 4 mm hollow shaft with a 5 mm threaded tip. (1980KV datasheet)
How fast it spins
KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 1980KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.
| Battery | Volts | No-load rpm (KV × V) | Electrical frequency | ESC steps per second |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4S nominal | 14.8 | 29,304 | 3,419 Hz | 20,513 |
| 4S full | 16.8 | 33,264 | 3,881 Hz | 23,285 |
| 6S nominal | 22.2 | 43,956 | 5,128 Hz | 30,769 |
| 6S full | 25.2 | 49,896 | 5,821 Hz | 34,927 |
A 14-pole rotor has 7 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 7 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 42 times per turn.
About the 3D model
A generic outrunner drawn from AOS’s published sizes: the 22 × 7 mm stator, 27.6 mm bell, 19.5 mm height, 5 mm shaft, 16 mm mounting circle and 12 teeth and 14 magnets. Anything AOS doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
