3.5-inch FPV freestyle motor
AOS Supernova 1605
A 3.5-inch freestyle motor designed by AOS RC and built by RCinPower: 16 × 5 mm stator, 13.3 g, and up to 863 g of thrust per motor on RCinPower’s 16 V bench.
- 3.5-inch freestyle
- 4S
- 3.5-inch tri-blade props
The spin is an illustration: the model turns at 1/600 of the no-load speed, and it is a generic 1605 motor drawn from AOS’s published sizes, not its exact design. Thrust, current and power are AOS’s bench figures for the GF 4024*2 prop at 16 V, read straight across between its throttle steps. Its data starts at 25% throttle.

What it pulls
AOS’s own bench test, one line per prop. Drag across the chart to move the throttle; the model above follows.
At 60% with the GF 4024*2: 456 g of thrust, 11.1 A, 177 W, 2.78 g per watt.
On your quad
5.3 : 1
Thrust to weight at full throttle: four motors pull 3,452 g with the GF 4024*2 at 16 V.
At 60% throttle they pull 1,823 g, 2.8 times the quad’s weight.
All-up weight is the quad ready to fly, with its battery and camera. The thrust is the maker’s static bench figure; in the air it is lower.
What you get
Made for 3.5-inch tri-blades on 4S
AOS RC optimised the 1605 to drive 3.5-inch freestyle tri-blades on 4S, and points 3.5-inch cinewhoops with bullnose props to larger 2004 motors.

Up to 863 g on 4S
On RCinPower’s 16 V bench it pulled 747 g at full throttle on an HQ T90RMM*3 and 863 g on a GF 4024*2.

Built on the Supernova 3220
AOS RC says the 1605 uses the design work behind its Supernova 3220, with thousands of finite element simulations; AOS RC adds that it is lighter than the 3.5-inch motors it competes with, for sub-250 g builds.

Throttle expo suggested
AOS RC suggests Betaflight throttle MID 0 and EXPO 0.20 to start, for finer control at low throttle.

Bench data
Redrawn from AOS’s test reports. Thrust is static pull on a bench, more than you get in flight. Power is volts × amps; efficiency is thrust divided by power.

Inside the motor
A brushless outrunner: the coils stand still in the middle and the magnets spin around them. From the top down:
- Design. Designed by AOS RC and made by RCinPower. (AOS RC design page)
- Prop mount. A 1.5 mm shaft, with four M2 holes in the top of the bell, 5 mm apart. (RCinPower datasheet)
How fast it spins
KV is the motor’s no-load speed per volt. With nothing on the shaft, the 3900KV version reaches about these speeds; a prop loads the motor and brings it down, typically to around 70–75% of these figures at full throttle.
| Battery | Volts | No-load rpm (KV × V) | Electrical frequency | ESC steps per second |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4S nominal | 14.8 | 57,720 | 5,772 Hz | 34,632 |
| 4S full | 16.8 | 65,520 | 6,552 Hz | 39,312 |
| 6S nominal | 22.2 | 86,580 | 8,658 Hz | 51,948 |
| 6S full | 25.2 | 98,280 | 9,828 Hz | 58,968 |
A 12-pole rotor has 6 pole pairs, so every turn of the shaft is 6 electrical cycles, and a six-step ESC switches the phases 36 times per turn.
About the 3D model
A generic outrunner drawn from AOS’s published sizes: the 16 × 5 mm stator, 20.3 mm bell, 14.2 mm height, 1.5 mm shaft, 9 mm mounting circle and 9 teeth and 12 magnets. Anything AOS doesn’t publish is typical for a motor this size, and the bell’s spoked top, the base and the inside are a generic design, not this motor’s. The colours are read off the maker’s product photos. There are no logos or markings: it is our drawing, not the maker’s.
